The following list includes great conversation starters or nice, friendly discussions!   1. Election The election has definitely been a trending topic in the past few weeks. Candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden have two very different platforms and the results are sure to shake the world no matter how the election may go. Some people love Trump and hate Biden. Others love Biden and hate Trump. Then there are those who think both candidates are equally disgraces. Which side do YOU fall on? 2. Coronavirus Another trending topic is the Coronavirus, which is also known as COVID-19. Originating in China, COVID-19 quickly spread to the United States and began to takeover. College Tips 101

5 Lessons You Can Learn From a College Student MAKE A FRIEND IN EVERY CLASS. In college, it is nearly impossible to make it to EVERY.SINGLE.CLASS. or even truly just grasp and understand the material. Making a friend or study partner in every class is one of the smartest things I learned to do. Whether you missed a few notes, didn’t make it to class from a hangover, or just can’t grasp the material, having a friend in the class will help in the long run. THE WEEKEND STARTS ON THURSDAY.  Something that surprised me in college is learning that the weekend truly starts on Thursday. All the parties, events, and epic bar nights begin on Thursdays. If you want to be a part of the festivities, it is important to get all your work done beforehand, get your outfits planned, and get ready to enjoy college night life! College students love party and alcohol, so why not get the weekend started early? Sometimes, events happen even earlier in the week which is why it is ALWAYS important t...

BEST Music Playlist

Hello everyone and welcome back to Just Charity Things! Remember the epic guest list that I would have if I were to throw a dinner party? Well, everyone knows that a great party HAS to have great music or else it can’t be a very good party.  My top 5 songs that would be played at a dinner party hosted by me would be: Beyonce- Run the World (Girls) First of all, who in their right mind DOESN’T love Beyonce? I chose this song because I believe that women empowerment is a vital and important thing in life. As a woman, music that uplifts up, makes us feel good, and gives us the opportunity to celebrate being women is always a plus. Women need music that makes them feel equal to men and as if the y are worthy of all things. This song does just that! Survivor-Eye of the Tiger This song brings back memories of elementary school and ARMT testing. Our teachers were so focused on getting us pumped up and excited that they would make sure we ate a good breakfast, got peppermints to eat while ...

The ULTIMATE Dinner Party

Welcome back, everyone!  How has your week been? If it has been good, I hope it gets even BETTER. If it hasn’t been good, I hope this week is YOUR week. I have a question for y’all. Have you ever hosted a dinner party? One of those fancy, black-tie events? Who did you invite? Well, imagine THIS: A nice dinner party with all your favorite foods, favorite adult beverages, and yes, you guessed it.. ANYONE WHO YOU WANT TO INVITE CAN COME. Well, let me just tell y’all how MY perfect dinner party would go and who would be invited. If you know me, you KNOW my love for Beyonce. Now I wouldn’t say that I am captain of the Bey-Hive, but I do truly adore her. I have read that she is one of the most humblest, down to earth people ever and I would really love to just get to know her and connect with her on a personal level and of course dance to “Single Ladies”. Another person who I would definitely invite would be Kobe Bryant. He’s had a tremendous  impact on the National Basketball Assoc...

Professors Are People, Too

In the first semester of my junior year I took a class called Public Relations Writing with a professor named Teddi Joyce. Of course like all college students, when I selected her class I looked her up on Rate My Professor . She had exceptional ratings so I was pretty excited and then I noticed class would be at 7:30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I thought to myself, Oh well, I'm going to have to take it anyways. I may as well go ahead and get it out of the way." I soon found out that Dr. Teddi was going to quickly become one of my favorite professors. She was funny, kind, understanding, and I could quickly tell that teaching was her passion and she actually cares about each one of her students. During this global pandemic, I think it's safe to say that EVERYONE has had to make some sort of adjustment. About three weeks into the semester, I began feeling terrible. Horrendous migraines, runny nose, dry cough, and chills. I was instantly worried about how the next few weeks w...

The "R" Word.

RACISM. Look at me. I'm a black woman. I  was born a black woman and I will be a black woman until I  die. I  love my skin and I am comfortable in my skin (besides these extra pounds I've picked up... thanks quarantine). I  believe Black Lives Matter. I  think people should be allowed to date who they want. I    am pro-black. I  am also a black woman with a white best friend. Where It All Started Me and my best friend, Hannah, have been friends for about 13 years. We met in Mrs. Tisdale's third grade class and have been pretty much stuck like glue since. We've cried together, been in trouble together, snuck out together (sorry mama and Mrs. Kim), had disagreements, and fights but our friendship has never quavered.  We grew up attending Vincent Middle High School, a small 2A school about 30 miles outside of Birmingham,AL (You know, one of those towns where EVERYBODY knows EVERYBODY'S business 😒) I'll be the first to say that Hanna...

You know, one of those weeks where you are not mentally where you want to b e, your physical healt h is pretty sucky, or when you just need a break from life and  all  things ass ociated with it. Unfortunately, I've been definitely experiencing one of those week. I  woke up Sunday feeling pretty icky and instantly though, OH NO! I was experiencing a runny nose, headache, dry cough, and just felt really weak. I went home for the weekend and knew I    was in no shape to drive back to campus. I went back to campus Monday evening and woke up Tuesday morning to g o to my universities Student Health Center. In the times of COVID-19, I  w as prettyyyyyy sure I  had caught it and very bummed. I     got tested and it was NEGATIVE!! I    definitely was happy about that but NOT about the sinus infection they diagnosed me with. All in all though, I  am bl...
