Girl Wonder

Ode to JoHannah

Hannah's 2018 Graduation Picture

JoHannah Marie Daughdrill is the kind of person everyone needs in their life. She’s kind, she’s smart, she’s outgoing, and most importantly, she is one of the strongest people you will ever meet. The trials and tribulations that she has endured and how she responded to them are what makes her such an inspiring person.
Hannah grew up in a very small town called Vandiver, Alabama and attended Vincent Middle High School, which is a 2A school located in Shelby County.  In the 7th grade, her parents divorced and she and her younger sister lived with her mom in a very tiny apartment. While growing up in a divorced household, she watched her mom struggle to make ends meet and her father quickly turned into a stranger. As a young teenager watching her mom's struggle, Hannah knew that she wanted a better life for herself.

While dealing with the hardships in her personal life, such as her dad's addiction to drugs, and her own personal battle with depression and anxiety; Hannah managed to excel in her schoolwork. She graduated as Valedictorian of her 2018 class, acquired a full ride scholarship to the University of Alabama, and maintained a 4.4 GPA all through high school while taking all honors and AP classes.

In college, Hannah still manages to be on the President's List and is majoring in Creative Media. She single-handedly put her father through rehab and their relationship is stronger than ever.  Hannah is the true definition of an inspiration to all. Her perseverance, dedication, and loyalty to those that she cares about are some of her most admirable features. To have a friend like Hannah is truly hitting the jackpot. She is a real life Girl Wonder.

The "R" Word.

RACISM. Look at me. I'm a black woman. I  was born a black woman and I will be a black woman until I  die. I  love my skin and I am comfortable in my skin (besides these extra pounds I've picked up... thanks quarantine). I  believe Black Lives Matter. I  think people should be allowed to date who they want. I    am pro-black. I  am also a black woman with a white best friend. Where It All Started Me and my best friend, Hannah, have been friends for about 13 years. We met in Mrs. Tisdale's third grade class and have been pretty much stuck like glue since. We've cried together, been in trouble together, snuck out together (sorry mama and Mrs. Kim), had disagreements, and fights but our friendship has never quavered.  We grew up attending Vincent Middle High School, a small 2A school about 30 miles outside of Birmingham,AL (You know, one of those towns where EVERYBODY knows EVERYBODY'S business 😒) I'll be the first to say that Hanna...

I went back to campus Monday evening and woke up Tuesday morning to g o to my universities Student Health Center. In the times of COVID-19, I  w as prettyyyyyy sure I  had caught it and very bummed. I     got tested and it was NEGATIVE!! I    definitely was happy about that but NOT about the sinus infection they diagnosed me with. All in all though, I  am bl...
