First Blog Post

Hi and welcome to Just Charity Things!

My name is Charity Robertson and I  am a 20 year old junior at Jacksonville State University where I  am majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and minor in English.

After graduation, I  plan on hopefully securing a job in the workforce where I will be solely in charge of managing social media accounts for well known organizations. I  have always been fascinated by the "damage control" part of Public Relations so I believe this would also be something I  am definitely interested in and looking forward to learn more about in this class.

I  do plan on continuing this blog past this class and graduation just as soon as I  can grasp the hang of things! This blog will highlight things in my day to day life, from cooking, to balancing school, work, and a social life and also some more serious topics such as my encounters with racism, or what it is like growing up as a young, black woman in a white male dominated society.

As you join me on this journey, I  hope you learn from me, I hope you laugh at and with me, I hope you cry with and most of all, I hope you're buckled up and ready for the chaotic ride that is my life! 😇

XOXO,

Charity Robertson

The "R" Word.

RACISM. Look at me. I'm a black woman. I  was born a black woman and I will be a black woman until I  die. I  love my skin and I am comfortable in my skin (besides these extra pounds I've picked up... thanks quarantine). I  believe Black Lives Matter. I  think people should be allowed to date who they want. I    am pro-black. I  am also a black woman with a white best friend. Where It All Started Me and my best friend, Hannah, have been friends for about 13 years. We met in Mrs. Tisdale's third grade class and have been pretty much stuck like glue since. We've cried together, been in trouble together, snuck out together (sorry mama and Mrs. Kim), had disagreements, and fights but our friendship has never quavered.  We grew up attending Vincent Middle High School, a small 2A school about 30 miles outside of Birmingham,AL (You know, one of those towns where EVERYBODY knows EVERYBODY'S business 😒) I'll be the first to say that Hanna...

BEST Music Playlist

Hello everyone and welcome back to Just Charity Things! Remember the epic guest list that I would have if I were to throw a dinner party? Well, everyone knows that a great party HAS to have great music or else it can’t be a very good party.  My top 5 songs that would be played at a dinner party hosted by me would be: Beyonce- Run the World (Girls) First of all, who in their right mind DOESN’T love Beyonce? I chose this song because I believe that women empowerment is a vital and important thing in life. As a woman, music that uplifts up, makes us feel good, and gives us the opportunity to celebrate being women is always a plus. Women need music that makes them feel equal to men and as if the y are worthy of all things. This song does just that! Survivor-Eye of the Tiger This song brings back memories of elementary school and ARMT testing. Our teachers were so focused on getting us pumped up and excited that they would make sure we ate a good breakfast, got peppermints to eat while ...
